How To Confidently Pick Your Wedding Photographer
Did you just get engaged?
Do you have no idea how to pick your wedding photographer?
Having had picked my own photographer, and having helped many couples have an amazing experience, I am happy to share what I think is the top 3 things to look when selecting your photographer.
First things first, you gotta make sure your style fits the style of the photographer. There are a couple style options it will be helpful to pay attention to.
1. EDITING: If the photographer has mainly sepia toned weddings on their website, your gallery is most likely to be sepia as well. If the photographer makes colors brighter, expect bright colors. Editing makes a massive massive difference in your finished gallery.
2. POSING: There are two major camps in the posing choices. Traditional and candid. Traditional poses can seem more curated, and candid poses will feel more spontaneous and most importantly, capture a lot of emotions.
When it comes to style, if it isn’t a match – it should be a no go.
Second thing to look at is the experience that your potential photographer has. There are tale tale signs that a photographer is actually experienced and knows what they are doing when it comes to your big day.
1. Do they have varied lighting conditions in their images? It’s easy to take something nice during golden hour, but what about at night? Or inside with horrible venue lighting?
2. Have they done the style of wedding that you are doing? Will they easily navigate the ins and outs of what will be happening that day?
3. How do they do when it comes to how they interact with people? Will they be able to bring out the best images of your guests?
4. How many weddings have they shot? What are their qualifications?
5. As a pro-tip, you can ask the photographer for references from past couples, then you can ask those couples yourself.
Nothing can make an unexperienced photographer produce what experienced photographers do.
Last thing to look for when choosing your photographer is all about their personality and professionalism. They will be one of the only people that gets to be constantly by your side throughout the entire day. Are they:
1. Easy to work with?
2. Friendly?
3. Able to put you and your guests at ease?
4. Professional?
5. Able to handle unexpected situations?
Ask how they deal with tough situations. Make sure you like them as a person, they could make or break the vibe at your wedding.
Picking the right photographer will be a worthwhile endeavor. Remember to think about their style, experience and expertise, personality, and professionalism when you're making your decision. Taking the time to choose the right wedding photographer ensures stunning photos that capture your wedding memories for years to come.
